Fitmo Ring research

Research review updated August 1, 2026

01

What “responsive” must mean

Responsive guided breathing is more than selecting a session from yesterday’s data or showing a live score. A current signal must cause a meaningful change before the active session ends.

  1. Sense

Receive current optical pulse and movement signals from Fitmo Ring.

  2. Check

Assess fit, motion, contact, plausibility, and overall signal confidence.

  3. Estimate

Derive beat timing and breathing-related patterns only when the data support it.

  4. Decide

Use a bounded controller that preserves the user’s comfort range.

  5. Adjust

Change the active cue gradually, or hold a steady rhythm when confidence is low.

What the ring senses and what software estimates

Direct signals

Optical pulse and movement

Fitmo Ring hardware can provide optical pulse-waveform and motion inputs. These are not an ECG or a direct measurement of breathing.

Derived estimates

Beat timing and breathing patterns

Software may estimate pulse intervals, heart-rate trends, and breathing-related patterns when signal quality is adequate.

Failure behavior

Hold, pause, or continue steadily

Poor contact, motion, cold hands, interruption, or implausible intervals should stop adaptation instead of forcing an answer.
